On July 10, 2021, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee decided to send the first 11 officers and soldiers to the Ngoc Trao mountains to promote the construction of the battlefield. Just over 2 months later, in the burning spark in Treo Cave - the central base location, the leadership of the battlefield announced the establishment of Thanh Hoa's first Armed Guard Station with 21 elite soldiers. This is the predecessor of the armed forces of the province in the future.
In the area of rugged mountains and forests, for the first time the red flag with a yellow star was raised. The birth of the concentrated escapade group not only realizes the policy of the 8th Central Conference, but also creates a strong spread to Ha Trung, Vinh Loc, Cam Thuy, Hoang Hoa and many other localities. The people secretly contributed rice, medicine, and enthusiastically selected young people to find a way to the battlefield, adding vitality to the revolution.
At the end of September and the beginning of October 4, the movement faced countless challenges. The enemy discovered and opened fierce raids, took prisoners, and caused heavy losses. But despite its short existence, the Ngoc Trao battlefield has left a mark of immortality.
The formation of Ngoc Trao battlefield is an inevitable result of the revolutionary movement, preparing for the General Uprising. On August 13, 1945, the National Uprising Committee launched a campaign for the entire people to rise up to gain power. Immediately afterwards, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee sent officials directly to Thach Thanh to direct the movement.
On the night of August 18 and early morning of August 19, 1945, the gongs rose and rang throughout the village, groups of people holding sticks and spears towed to Kim Tan district under the red flag with a yellow star. Self-defense platoon and regroupes surrounded the road, forcing the district district to submit the district seals. In just a few hours, the uprising to gain power in Thach Thanh won, contributing significantly to the August General Uprising peak nationwide.
Mr. Quach Van Thap, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Ngoc Trao Village, shared: "Every year, on September 19 - the day of the establishment of the Ngoc Trao Expedition Team - the people organize a traditional festival to commemorate the ancestors. This is also an opportunity to educate the younger generation about the revolutionary tradition of the homeland.
Changes in the revolutionary homeland
Regarding Ngoc Trao in the first days of autumn 2025, everyone clearly felt the change. On the foundation of an ancient war zone, now Ngoc Trao commune was newly formed from the merger of 4 old communes (Ngoc Trao, Thanh An, Thanh Long, Thanh Tam) with an area of over 79 km2, population of over 23,000 people.
Ngoc Trao Commune Party Secretary Le Xuan Binh said: Promoting the tradition of the heroic battlefield, the Party Committee and the People are always united and focus on attracting investment resources. High-tech agriculture, large-scale production are expanded; industry and handicrafts are also flourishing.
Along with economic development, Ngoc Trao pays special attention to preserving cultural identity. Folk festivals, traditional craft villages, and natural attractions are becoming attractive tourism products. September 19 every year is not only a traditional festival but also a special cultural and historical event, attracting a large number of visitors to the battlefield.
After the merger, the Commune Party Committee has quickly perfected the organizational apparatus, identifying the breakthrough in the 2025 - 2030 term as building synchronous infrastructure, promoting digital transformation, developing a team of brave cadres, meeting new requirements.
