According to the peak direction on handling alcohol concentration violations during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, functional forces in Tay Ninh simultaneously launched inspections on February 17 (the 1st day of Tet), recording a notable difference in the rate of violations between two time frames of the day.
Violation rate increased nearly 3 times in the evening
On February 18, according to a report from the Tay Ninh Provincial Traffic Police Department, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on February 17, 15 task forces with 68 officers and soldiers controlled 618 vehicles. Through this, 25 cases of alcohol concentration violations were recorded, equivalent to about 4.05% of the vehicles inspected.

However, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM on the same day, although the number of vehicles controlled decreased to 389 vehicles, functional forces discovered up to 46 violations. The violation rate increased to about 11.83%, nearly 3 times higher than during the day.
Violations come from subjective psychology during Tet
According to records from working groups, many violators said that they only traveled a short distance after attending a family party or going to wish Tet, so "no impact". A young man driving a motorbike in Tan Ninh ward admitted that he had just had beer at a New Year's meal and was on his way home less than 2km away when he was checked and found to be violating.
Functional forces believe that the evening of the 1st day of Tet is when many people participate in New Year's gatherings and parties, leading to a higher risk of violations compared to daytime - a time when people mainly travel to visit relatives and enjoy spring.

Also during this peak period, in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, the Traffic Police force also recorded a similar trend when the number of cases of alcohol concentration violations increased sharply in the evening due to subjective psychology after Tet gatherings.
Functional forces recommend that people absolutely do not drive after using alcohol and beer, even when traveling short distances, to ensure safety for themselves and the community in the first days of the new year.
