Vinh Long removes obstacles, connects green power sources with businesses

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Abundant renewable power sources and direct electricity purchase and sale mechanisms open up opportunities for businesses to access green energy and transform production.

Grouping supply and demand to connect green electricity

On September 20, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade said that a survey of the demand for green electricity use and participation in the direct electricity purchase and sale mechanism (DPPA) in August-September 2026 recorded 361 votes from electricity-using enterprises and 17 votes from power generation units.

Among 275 businesses with data, the total demand for green electricity is about 155 million kWh/year. Meanwhile, the amount of electricity ready to participate in DPPA is nearly 1.8 billion kWh/year. This difference shows that the development potential of the green electricity market is still large.

However, according to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, large supply does not necessarily mean that it can be connected immediately with usage needs. Connection also depends on the location of the source, load characteristics, connection conditions, measuring methods, contract mechanisms and payment capacity of the enterprise.

From this reality, the Ministry of Industry and Trade orients the construction of a database, classifying supply sources and needs to determine suitable models, instead of just individual connections between each buyer and seller.

The Industry and Trade sector will update data to serve the renewable energy center, coordinate with the electricity sector to guide businesses on load characteristics, measurement, connection conditions and information standardization of buyers and sellers.

Businesses are supported to review green power demand, technical conditions, costs and risks before participating in DPPA. Thereby, connecting renewable power sources with more suitable loads.

The goal is to help buyers and sellers identify difficulties in participation conditions, measurement, contracts, costs and payments," Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan said.

From green electricity to green products

The orientation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade is not only to solve the buying and selling of renewable electricity but also to create a foundation for green value chain transformation.

In which, green energy is input, green production is process and green products are output value. When businesses increase the use of renewable energy, reduce emissions and create products that meet environmental requirements, the benefits are not only in reducing environmental impact but also associated with competitiveness.

This is meaningful as the export market is increasingly interested in carbon footprints, environmental standards and sustainability of the supply chain. The ability to use clean energy can therefore help Vinh Long enterprises enhance their position in the domestic and international supply chains.

From the perspective of attracting investment, the formation of a green energy ecosystem - green production - green products creates conditions for Vinh Long to access new projects, especially businesses and corporations that focus on using clean energy and reducing emissions.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, renewable energy enterprises play an important role in green transformation, emission reduction and improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods. For Vinh Long, the goal is to turn the advantage of renewable energy into an economic development advantage.

From green power sources to green production, from green production to green products is the direction that Vinh Long Industry and Trade sector promotes, in order to create a foundation for businesses to develop sustainably, improve product value and practical competitiveness.
