As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on the morning of October 14, many students at the Center for National Defense and Security Education - Thai Nguyen University showed symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea, suspected of food poisoning.
Statistics show that 244 students were affected and were taken for monitoring and health care, of which 9 cases had to be transferred to A Thai Nguyen Hospital for examination.

Information from the Center for National Defense and Security Education - Thai Nguyen University, regarding food sources, the unit is currently implementing a food supply contract with Nam Thanh Hanoi Limited Liability Company since 2019.
After the incident, the Center summoned representatives of Nam Thanh Hanoi Company Limited and related units, including the Department of Finance, Logistics, Engineering and Student Management to work, determine the cause of the incident and responsibility.
Initial causes are predicted to be related to the digestive system, water sources, or foods used in meals.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ly Van Canh - Head of the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (Thai Nguyen Department of Health) said that the inspection team has drawn up a working record and is completing the administrative penalty dossier.
According to Mr. Canh, after 2 days of the incident, when the inspection team arrived, food samples could not be taken, so the cause could not be determined.
"Currently, the procedures are being completed to handle the penalty for improperly storing samples, some kitchen staff at the facility do not wear masks or hats during processing.
The cause is only suspected food poisoning because it is related to the meal. The day the team came to check, the samples had been taken for more than 24 hours, and the sample storage cabinet was not complete," said Mr. Canh.
