On November 28, regarding the widespread food poisoning in Vung Tau City suspected to be caused by eating banh mi, Vung Tau Hospital said that the number of cases coming to the Emergency Department for treatment of food poisoning symptoms continued to increase on the night of November 27.
Statistics as of 6am on November 28, Vung Tau Hospital has received more than 210 cases for treatment, including 60 children. To date, about 145 cases are still in the hospital for monitoring, including 3 severe cases with low blood pressure or shock (1 case is a child).
At the same time, Vietsovpetro Medical Center also received a total of about 65 cases for treatment. Thus, the total number of food poisoning cases suspected to be caused by eating banh mi has increased to 275 cases.
"The number of cases may continue to increase, this morning there were also some cases coming to the hospital for treatment," said a representative of Vung Tau Hospital.
On November 28, Mr. Hoang Vu Thanh - Chairman of Vung Tau City People's Committee and the working delegation also visited, comforted and encouraged the cases of food poisoning being treated at the two medical facilities above.
"The city has directed functional units to coordinate, conduct tracing, verify and clarify the cause of the poisoning incident for handling according to regulations. At the same time, it has directed a general review of business establishments in the area regarding food safety and hygiene, and inspection of business registration...", Mr. Thanh said.
According to the Vung Tau City Health Department, the authorities have seized all the food in the banh mi shop suspected of causing the poisoning, then taken samples, along with specimens (vomit) from the hospital and sent them to the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health to test for microbiological indicators; the results will be available in a few days.
In addition, the units are also tracing the origin at 4 banh mi establishments, 1 pork production facility and 1 ham production facility... to clarify the cause. At the same time, request the facility suspected of causing the poisoning to temporarily suspend business, waiting for the official conclusion; continue to monitor and grasp the situation of patients being treated at medical facilities.
