The case was a 4-month-old boy, residing in Hoang Liet ward (Hoang Mai district), who is not yet old enough to be vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis. The child started having symptoms on July 4 with a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, convulsions in the hand, and was then admitted to the National Children's Hospital for treatment. The results of the melasma test determined that the child was positive for the Japanese encephalitis virus. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of cases of this disease in Hanoi decreased by one case.
Regarding the COVID-19 epidemic situation, last week (from July 4 to 11), the city recorded 31 new cases, a decrease of 34 cases compared to the previous week (65 cases). However, in the first 6 months of 2025, the whole city recorded 2,027 cases, more than double the same period last year (849 cases), but there were no deaths.
In response to the development of the epidemic, CDC Hanoi affirmed that it will continue to coordinate with relevant units to closely monitor decentralized health facilities and in the community to promptly detect, investigate and handle cases and outbreaks, preventing the epidemic from spreading.
In particular, the city will strengthen medical quarantine at Noi Bai International Airport to detect suspected cases of infectious diseases early to apply appropriate and timely epidemic prevention and control measures.
