On November 19, the Department of Agriculture and Environment issued a document reporting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee about the incident of green sea water in Vung Tau that occurred at the end of October 2025.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that on October 25, many tourists to Vung Tau were surprised to see the phenomenon of the sea water in Bai Sau area turning green; they should post their photos on social networks. This phenomenon not only occurs in Vung Tau but also in other nearby localities.
At this time, the authorities quickly grasped the information, explaining that this was just a normal phenomenon due to the influence of moss and algae, and would die on its own after a few days. At the same time, samples were taken for testing and analysis.
Test results of the Institute of Life Sciences show that the seawater sample contains microalgae (named Noctiluca scintillans; spelling: Noticula; family name: Noctilucaceae; Giap Dinoflagellata algae industry) with a density of 80 cells/ml of seawater.
This is a widely distributed algae, the density can change depending on the time but does not produce toxins. Therefore, the phenomenon of blue sea water may be worrying, but it is only a natural phenomenon.
Currently, the sea area in Vung Tau ward no longer has green sea water. The Department of Agriculture and Environment and related units will continue to monitor and supervise the marine environment in Vung Tau in the coming time.
