On August 4, in Nui Thanh commune, Da Nang, the Command of Coast Guard Region 2 announced the decision to establish the Unmanned Vehicles Platoon, under the Staff Department.
The unit has the task of managing and operating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) serving reconnaissance, observation, information gathering; air patrol and surveillance; protecting command posts, bases, warehouses and supporting search and rescue.
The establishment of the UAV platoon is expected to improve the ability to apply technology in management, sovereignty protection, law enforcement and ensuring security and safety in the assigned sea areas.
Assigning tasks to the unit, Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 2 Command - requested officers and soldiers to quickly master equipment, strengthen training and closely coordinate with forces to effectively exploit UAVs in patrol, control, reconnaissance and rescue.
