On February 9, My Thuy Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said it is urgently developing a plan to handle a large whale carcass drifting ashore in My Thuy village.
Previously, at about 3 pm on February 8, local authorities received information that people discovered a large fish carcass drifting ashore in the southern area of My Thuy beach. Immediately after receiving the news, officials of the Commune Economic Department were present at the scene to inspect and verify.
Through inspection, functional forces determined that this was the body of a large whale, in the process of decomposition. The location of the drifting whale was in the eroded coastal area, making access and handling difficult.
According to a representative of My Thuy Commune People's Committee, the locality is coordinating with relevant units to develop a handling plan suitable to the actual conditions, ensuring environmental safety, coastal landscape and the lives of people in the area.
