On July 25, Huong Phung Border Guard Station (Command of Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command) said that the information was provided by Mr. Ho Van Vang (born 1943) and his son, Mr. Ho Van Sinh, residing in Ban May Cluster, Se Pon district, Savannakhet province (Laos) during the unit's exchange of information with local authorities in the 597 landmark area.
According to initial information, on the farmland area of Mr. Vang's family, there is still a martyr's grave of Vietnamese main force soldiers who sacrificed in the period 1971-1972 and a position suspected to be the A-shaped bunker of Truong Son soldiers (Division 559) bombed by US aircraft, which may be a mass burial place for 3 to 5 officers and soldiers.
Immediately after receiving the information, Huong Phung Border Guard Station instructed people to determine the location, coordinates, record videos, take photos of the scene and continue to collect relevant documents to serve the verification work.
According to Mr. Ho Van Vang, previously this area had 8 martyrs' graves. In 2009, he directly led the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team to search for and exhume 7 identical remains. Due to farming conditions and local customs, the remaining graves have not been notified, so they are still intact at the scene.
Currently, Huong Phung Border Guard Station is continuing to verify and report to superiors to coordinate with functional units to survey the field, develop a plan to search for and repatriate martyrs' remains according to the Campaign "500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains".
