Buffalo and garbage surround Dan Kia - Suoi Vang lake in Lam Dong province

Dak Lak - After heavy rains, water from upstream flooded into Dan Kia Lake - Suoi Vang, pulling buffalo carcasses and many types of hazardous waste.

On May 6, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lac Duong district (Lam Dong province) said that the authorities are organizing an inspection and handling of the pollution situation in the area of Dan Kia Lake - Suoi Vang.

According to records, in recent days, after the rains, a large amount of solid waste including packaging, shells of pesticides have poured into the downstream area of Dan Kia - Suoi Vang Lake (Lac Duong District).

Along with the hazardous waste, people discovered buffalo carcasses (weighing hundreds of kilograms) in the process of decomposing and drifting to the lake shore.

A resident said that the buffalo body on the lake decomposed, stinking. The incident happened for many days but no people came to receive buffaloes. The authorities have not handled, causing the area to become polluted, the risk of spreading disease.

Dan Kia Lake - Suoi Vang has an area of about 360 hectares, surrounded by pine hills of Lac Duong district and Da Lat city (Lam Dong).

This lake provides a large amount of water for domestic water treatment plants, meeting the water needs of people in Lac Duong town (Lac Duong district) and Da Lat city.
