On August 23, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a launching ceremony to implement the project to build Phu Quoc special zone into a model unit for security, order and urban civilization.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung, Deputy Minister of Public Security, emphasized: Today's launching ceremony is an activity demonstrating the highest political determination to thoroughly implement, propagate and disseminate to the armed forces, departments, branches, unions, enterprises and the masses; mobilize the strength of the entire political system and the entire people, successfully implement the goal of building Phu Quoc special zone into a model unit for security, order and urban civilization in 2026. Thereby creating a basis, foundation, and favorable conditions to ensure absolute security and safety at the APEC 2027 Conference.
Senior General Pham The Tung requested the An Giang Provincial Police to organize a comprehensive review and assessment of the situation related to security, order and urban civilization in Phu Quoc to coordinate with the professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security, departments, branches and sectors of the province to focus on advising and resolving early, right at the grassroots level, ensuring early completion of the set criteria. Build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern Phu Quoc Special Forces Police force capable of solving all security and order problems at the grassroots level.
Deputy Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee Lam Minh Thanh said: Entering the new period, Phu Quoc is facing many great opportunities, but along with significant challenges, rapid urbanization, strong increase in mechanical population, and increasing number of tourists while infrastructure conditions, especially environmental sanitation, are still inadequate.
The special forces police force needs to promote their core role, proactively grasp the situation, prevent early and from afar; not to form hot spots for crime and order. Focus on strongly suppressing criminal, drug and organized crime; strictly managing residence and accommodation; thoroughly handling land hotspots and illegal construction in the area. Promote the application of information technology and digital technology; soon complete and effectively operate a Smart Urban Monitoring Center, a surveillance camera system, implement cooling penalty, promote a channel to reflect the scene for people to participate in monitoring.
Mr. Tran Minh Khoa - Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee - said: Phu Quoc is currently entering the stage of accelerating the implementation of projects serving APEC 2027, and it is forecasted that the security and order situation in the area will have many potential complications.
Phu Quoc will be determined to mobilize the combined strength of the entire political system, creating consensus among all classes of people to focus on implementing the criteria for building a special zone, which is "Model unit for security, order and urban civilization" in accordance with the practical situation in the locality.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, the police force and functional agencies, along with youth union members, simultaneously marched through the main roads in the area, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
