The traffic accident occurred at Km197+900 on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, in Chuong Duong commune (Hanoi City) at about 0:20 on July 17.
At the time of the accident, a sleeper bus with license plate 20C-172. XX driven by driver Nguyen Van B (born in 1983, residing in Thai Nguyen province), carrying 32 people, was traveling in the direction of Nghe An - Hanoi.
When arriving at the above area, the car suddenly rushed to the right, knocked down the guardrail and protective railing of the expressway and then fell into the service road below from an altitude of about 3.5-4.2 m. At the scene, the guardrail was heavily damaged, and the passenger car overturned on the side of the road.
Immediately after receiving the news, Chuong Duong Commune Police, Fire and Rescue Police Department of Hanoi City Police and Highway Traffic Police Team No. 3 (Department of Traffic Police) urgently mobilized forces to the scene to deploy rescue and relief work.
Initially, functional forces determined that the accident killed 4 people, including 3 victims who died on the spot and 1 person who died in the hospital. Many injured people have been taken to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Agricultural Hospital and Thuong Tin General Hospital for emergency treatment.
The quick test results showed that the driver did not violate regulations on alcohol concentration and was negative for drugs.
The cause of the accident is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
