On the evening of March 4, the Kien Giang Forest Protection Department said that the unit advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to establish public ownership and hand over all 26 freshwater crocodiles to Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc Wildlife Care and Conservation Park. The transfer of these crocodiles is for continued care and conservation according to the provisions of law.
The Forest Protection Department said that the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tien City Police had previously handed over 86 freshwater crocodiles as evidence in the criminal case to the Ha Tien City Forest Protection Department (52 individuals were dead, 34 individuals were alive).
After receiving them, the Ha Tien City Forest Protection Department assigned the Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station to preserve the dead individuals by applying ice and rescuing the living individuals. During the care and rescue process, 8 more individuals died, the remaining 26 individuals are being cared for and rescued at the Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station.
The Forest Protection Department has developed a plan to handle wild animals as evidence in the case in accordance with regulations for dead and living wild animals.
On March 3, the Forest Protection Department coordinated with the Forest animal Destroyment Council to destroy the 60 freshwater crocodiles mentioned above according to the provisions of law.
Based on the actual conditions at the facility, the results of the discussion with the veterinary unit, the Destroying Council decided on the form of destruction of the above freshwater crocodiles by burying the bodies in the hole specializing in treating the dead animals of the Station and using chemicals (lime powder), covering the remains to self-decompose in the hole.
The Forest Protection Department assigned the Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station to continue caring for and rescuing these 26 crocodiles until they are fully healthy.
