On April 21, the Dak Lak Provincial Forest Protection Department said that from the beginning of the year to now, the forest protection force has coordinated with forest owners and functional sectors to detect and make records of handling 187 violations of the Forestry Law.
Including 4 cases of illegal forest exploitation; 7 cases of violating general regulations of the State on forest protection; 124 cases of illegal deforestation; 1 case of violating regulations on forest animal protection.
There were 25 cases of illegal transportation of forest products; 21 cases of illegal storage, trading, export, import, and processing of forest products; 5 cases of violations of regulations on management of forest product records in transportation, trading, storage, and processing of forest products.
Temporarily seized exhibits include 31 vehicles, machinery, tools of all kinds; 51.8 m3 of wood of all kinds; 36 individuals and 45 kg of forest animals; 7,150 kg and 3,750 forest products of all kinds.
Functional agencies have handled 140 cases, of which 138 cases were administratively sanctioned, and 2 cases were criminally handled. The total amount collected and remitted to the state budget after handling is nearly 282.7 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Head of Dak Lak Provincial Forest Protection Department, said that the situation of illegal logging and transportation of forest products of unknown origin is still latent in some areas.
To proactively prevent, the unit has developed a patrol and inspection plan in the direction of combining many tasks in one working period.
According to Mr. Hung, in many areas with large forest areas, forest ranger stations have coordinated with local authorities, forest owners and functional forces to establish inter-sectoral patrol teams.
During the scene inspection, functional forces also reviewed signs of illegal logging such as newly opened trails, timber gathering yards in the forest or vehicles transporting illegal forest products.
