On October 31, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province directed the focus on leadership and direction to prevent and strictly handle fishing vessels violating illegal exploitation in foreign waters.
In Khanh Hoa, from the beginning of 2024 until now, there have been 112 fishing boats with 154 trips losing connection.
Of which, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command has verified 99 fishing boats with 134 lost connections, and 13 fishing boats with 20 lost connections are continuing to verify when the fishing boats return to shore.
According to the plan to strictly handle fishing vessels violating illegal exploitation in foreign waters, Khanh Hoa province directed the Provincial Border Guard Command to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, People's Committees of coastal districts, towns and cities to focus on reviewing and thoroughly handling violations of VMS regulations.
Pay attention to fishing vessels that lose connection for 6 hours to less than 10 days without reporting their location to shore, do not return to shore for more than 10 days as prescribed, cross maritime boundaries... from the beginning of 2023 to present, ensure there are specific results and data to work with the 5th European Inspection Team (EC).
With the determination to join the whole country in removing the EC “Yellow Card” warning on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, Khanh Hoa has implemented many strong solutions and key tasks.
Up to now, 100% of the province's fishing vessels have been registered, marked in accordance with regulations and updated data on the National Fishing Vessel Data System; the whole province has 643/646 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more operating in offshore areas that have installed fishing vessel journey monitoring equipment (reaching 99.87%), 634/646 vessels have been granted food safety certificates for fishing vessels (reaching 98.14%)...
The control of fishing vessels entering and leaving the port and the confirmation of exploited seafood are also carried out strictly and transparently; violations in the field of fisheries exploitation have been strictly handled.
