According to a reporter's observation on January 21 at Cai Rang Floating Market (Cai Rang District, Can Tho City), boats were bustling with goods, agricultural products, ornamental flowers, and cakes and jams typical of Tet in the Western region. The calls and laughter of merchants, tour guides, and visitors made the whole river bustling.
In particular, before the Lunar New Year, the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Can Tho City, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the city's departments, branches and the People's Committee of Cai Rang District to visit and present Tet gifts to traders at Cai Rang Floating Market.
Here, 400 gifts and lucky money with a total cost of about 200 million VND were handed directly to traders and tourism workers at Cai Rang Floating Market.
Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - visited the trading situation and sent wishes to the people of the Floating Market for a warm, happy and reunited Tet; at the same time reminded people to be aware of preserving, conserving and developing the Floating Market associated with tourism.
Excitedly holding the Tet gift in his hand, Mr. Vo Thanh Tan (tour guide) expressed his gratitude to the leaders and local authorities for giving meaningful gifts to the people at Cai Rang Floating Market on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Be (a trader who has been associated with the Floating Market for more than 30 years) emotionally shared that she felt very warm and happy when receiving the attention, visits and gifts from the city leaders. This is a great source of encouragement for her and other traders to continue trading and preserving the beauty of the floating market.
The Tet gifts given to the people of Cai Rang Floating Market, although not of great material value, contain the deep affection and concern of the city leaders for those who make a living on the Floating Market - contributing to creating a unique cultural feature and developing tourism in the Tay Do river region.
According to the leader of Cai Rang District People's Committee, the Floating Market is an important anchorage location for about 200 - 250 boats and ships trading and exchanging goods; sometimes up to 300 - 400 boats. Of these, about 150 boats are permanently anchored and about 100 boats come from other places.
Cai Rang Floating Market has become a tourism brand of Can Tho City, a national intangible cultural heritage, ranked in the top 10 impressive floating markets in Asia and the world. This is the pride of the people of Cai Rang District in particular and Can Tho City in general.
