Residents of Viet Hung ward (Hanoi) said that in the early morning of March 30, 2 periods of hail rain appeared in the ward. The rain time was short but the intensity of the rain was quite strong.
Initially, the size of the stones was only the size of a fingertip, later it gradually grew to the size of a cup.
At that time, many people moving on the road had to find shelter.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh (Viet Hung ward, Hanoi) said that hailstorms occurred in two waves in a short period of time. "The first wave started at about 5:02 am and lasted until about 5:10 am. Then the rain subsided for a while and then another hailstorm appeared at about 5:20 am and lasted for 3-4 minutes," Mr. Linh informed.
According to Mr. Linh, the second hailstorm occurred in a shorter time, but the intensity was greater than the first one. The stones fell down, creating a loud noise when hitting the corrugated iron roof and the road surface.
The first wave of ice rain was small in size, about the size of a thumb. But in the next wave, many were larger" - Mr. Linh said.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Hanh (Viet Hung ward, Hanoi) was also surprised when ice rain appeared in the early morning. Ms. Hanh decided to stay at home and wait for the weather to stabilize before moving to ensure safety.
Many stones are large in size, falling with strong force, so I decided to stay home and wait until the rain stops before going to work" - Ms. Hanh said.
Previously, on the afternoon of March 29, ice rain also appeared in Son Tay ward (Hanoi). Stones as big as fingertips, continuously fell down for about 15 - 20 minutes.
People said that ice rain appeared in a short time, each stone was small in size, so it did not cause serious consequences.
