Patients benefit from digital transformation
At Bach Mai Hospital, digital transformation has completely changed the way it operates. On November 15, 2024, the hospital officially completed the implementation of electronic medical records, becoming the first special-class hospital in Vietnam to no longer use paper medical records. With about 8,000 - 10,000 visits per day, the electronic medical records system not only helps reduce administrative procedures but also improves service quality.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co - Director of Bach Mai Hospital, people can now register for medical examination online, choose doctors, specialists and suitable examination schedules, significantly saving waiting time. At the same time, cashless payment is implemented synchronously, supporting both inpatients and outpatients. Doctors use tablets to update information, diagnose and treat, helping to improve the efficiency of health management and care.
Not stopping there, the hospital has researched and applied artificial intelligence (AI) to diagnose lung cancer. This solution has been successfully tested with high accuracy, from bronchoscopy to histopathology. This is a clear demonstration of the potential of technology in reducing treatment costs and optimizing medical resources.
Bach Mai Hospital is also a pioneer in training medical personnel to meet the requirements of digital transformation. Electronic medical records and medical software have been included in the compulsory training program at Bach Mai Medical College, aiming to prepare human resources for the future.
Hanoi Medical University Hospital has built a comprehensive digital ecosystem, from patient management system (HIS), laboratory (LIS), diagnostic imaging (PACS) to electronic medical records (EMR) and personal health records (My HMUH). In just 6 years, the hospital has become a pioneer in digital transformation in the healthcare sector.
The hospital's electronic medical record system and electronic medical examination book help simplify the medical examination and treatment process.
In addition, the remote medical examination and treatment service has expanded the ability to provide professional support to lower-level hospitals, handle difficult cases, and improve the qualifications of the grassroots medical staff. With more than 6,000 students participating in online training courses, the hospital has not only improved its professional capacity but also promoted the popularity of technology in the healthcare system.
Another highlight is the Telepathology application, which allows remote diagnosis and treatment, while supporting consultation, teaching and scientific research.
Digital transformation spreads across the country
Mr. Nguyen Truong Nam - Deputy Director of the National Health Information Center - emphasized that digital transformation not only helps improve management efficiency but also brings practical benefits to people.
Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, issued on December 22, 2024, affirms that digital transformation is the main driving force for socio-economic development. In the healthcare sector, the Resolution aims to apply advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve service quality and disease management.
Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that digital transformation is the key to achieving the goal of universal health coverage and sustainable development by 2030. Integrating modern technology into management and treatment processes helps improve access to services, reduce costs and enhance the operational efficiency of the health system.
Despite significant achievements, digital transformation in the healthcare sector still faces many difficulties. However, this is also an opportunity for the healthcare sector to continue investing in digital infrastructure, improving human resources and promoting international cooperation to develop more comprehensive solutions.
With current policies and efforts, Vietnam's healthcare sector is gradually building a solid foundation, ready to meet all challenges in the digital age.
