The BMW i8 was first launched globally at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 and officially sold in Germany from June 2014. In Vietnam, the car appeared in 2015 with a rolling price of nearly 9 billion VND.
At that time, the i8 was considered one of the outstanding electric sports cars thanks to its unique design and modern technology.

A used i8 from 2015, currently being offered for sale at around VND2.05 to VND2.1 billion in Vietnam.
The BMW i8 is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5L 3-cylinder 228-horsepower gasoline engine and an electric motor. Total capacity reaches 362 horsepower, maximum torque of 570 Nm. The car uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. Maximum speed reaches 250 km/h.
In full electric driving mode, the BMW i8 can travel about 35 km at a maximum speed of 135 km/h, a figure that is not large compared to current electric cars but impressive enough at the time of launch.

One of the attractive features of the i8 is its Future-style design, especially the butterfly-shaped door. The interior of the car is also highly appreciated for its modernity and difference.
As of 2019, more than 20,000 BMW i8s have been sold globally. This helped the i8 become the best-selling plug-in hybrid sports car in the world at that time, surpassing the total sales of competitors in the same segment.
Although it has stopped production since 2020, BMW i8 is still considered by many car enthusiasts to be a pioneer in the electrification trend in the automotive industry.
