BMW interior design is usually quite simple, each BMW has a few screens, some buttons and often uses leather materials. However, according to information from the company, this is about to change.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 taking place in the US, a new display product that BMW calls "Panoramic Vision" was launched with a display running between the two A-pillars at the bottom of the windshield. Part of this change is a new steering wheel style that may surprise many people.
The new steering wheel no longer has a speedometer, so the driver doesn't need to look over the wheel to know the parameters. BMW thinks this is a good opportunity to take advantage of this space. Similar to what was seen on the Neue Klasse concept models, BMW changed the horizontal bar to a vertical bar, turning the 3-spoke steering wheel into 4-spoke. This makes the steering wheel look like it's been flipped upside down.
According to the company, moving the display to the windshield will improve driver concentration and expand the space. The screen consists of three parts, in which the part directly in front of the driver is the digital clock.
The rest of the screen can be customized with widgets from the infotainment system, containing up to 6 applications arranged as desired such as: compass, weather, audio and navigation. Users can also display power and torque along with acceleration index.
The new design will be applied to electric and internal combustion engine models of the Neue Klasse line, expected to launch at the end of 2025.
Panoramic Vision is also just one part of the new BMW iDrive and Operating System X that the company unveiled at CES this year. The system also includes the option of displaying 3D information on the windshield, providing navigation information and autonomous driving.
