Recently, when the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway and Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway were put into operation, many cars traveling from Da Lat, Lam Dong Province back to Ho Chi Minh City or traveling down to Mui Ne, Binh Thuan often chose the route to National Highway 28B, down Dai Ninh Pass to get down to the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway. Especially during the upcoming Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and April 30 - May 1, the traffic volume of tourists' cars on this route is expected to increase dramatically.
Dai Ninh Pass is famous for many sharp turns and bad roads, so drivers must be careful when going down the pass. Because there have been some cases of cars having accidents and plunging into the abyss due to brake incidents. The situation of a vehicle losing its brakes while going down a steep mountain due to drivers checking the brakes inter- context comes from a lack of experience in mountain climbing, which poses many potential risks.

For example, the truck fell through Dai Ninh Pass at km42 in Phan Lam Commune, Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province, had its rear tires explode and caught fire in January 2025. The results of the technical incident assessment of the Criminal Techniques Department of Binh Thuan Provincial Police concluded that the cause was due to the air brakes being continuously affected for a long time, causing the brake pads to be too hot, heating up and burning.

Or in July 2022, a passenger car plunged into the abyss of Dai Ninh Pass also in Phan Lam Commune, Bac Binh District, injuring 20 passengers. The Criminal Techniques Department of Binh Thuan Provincial Police assessed and concluded the cause of the driver's continuous use of brakes when going down the pass, leading to a technical problem.
According to the Criminal Technical Department of Binh Thuan Province, drivers often have a habit of continuous braking to control the speed of the vehicle. However, with the long pass sections, this method accidentally causes the brake system to be excessive, easily leading to the phenomenon of "fire brakes" and loss of vehicle control, causing the car to rush to go downhill. The car lost the brakes or being overturned when the pass is often the consequence of many different causes, in which the safety quality of the car plays an important role.
If the parts on the vehicle are not well maintained or have problems, the risk of accidents will increase. In addition, inappropriate vehicle loads and uneven distribution of goods cause the vehicle's center to be unbalanced, easily tilted and overturned when going downhill.
This unit also recommends that drivers focus on maintaining and checking vehicles periodically, ensuring stable braking systems, tires with good traction and a system of suspension to keep the vehicle balanced when moving.
In addition, drivers need to comply with safety rules and apply driving techniques properly such as using low numbers to take advantage of engine brakes, avoiding continuous brake checks that lead to brake hot, reducing braking efficiency.
