The situation of students arbitrarily "modifying cars", removing speed limits to increase operating capacity or express personality is becoming a worrying issue, posing many risks of traffic unsafety.
According to warnings from the Traffic Police Department, many vehicles, including electric vehicles and small-capacity motorbikes, have been structurally modified to increase speed and change design without anticipating the consequences.
Many cars after "tuning" are interfered with with engines, powertrains, batteries, speed controls or speed limits are removed. The structural change makes the vehicle no longer meet the original safety standards, posing a risk of traffic accidents, fires and explosions and loss of control when operating.
Reality shows that many student electric vehicles after "tuning" can run at much higher speeds than the original design, while the braking system, chassis and tires are not upgraded correspondingly. When traveling on crowded roads or encountering unexpected situations, drivers are prone to losing control, falling or serious collisions.
The Traffic Police Department also warned of the risk of fire and explosion from batteries and components of unknown origin or spontaneous electrical connections. Some cases of using large capacity batteries, charging incorrectly can lead to short circuits, fires, directly threatening the lives of users and those around them.
Notably, most students are still limited in vehicle control skills as well as the ability to handle situations when participating in traffic. Meanwhile, the psychology of liking to express themselves, being influenced by "tuning" videos, revving engines, and speeding on social networks makes many children easily follow without fully realizing the consequences.
In addition to the risk of accidents, the situation of gathering to drive at high speed, swerving, zigzagging, and revving engines from "car modification" groups also causes insecurity and disorder, affecting traffic participants and people's lives.
According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety in 2024 and Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, the act of arbitrarily changing the structure and characteristics of vehicles is a violation of the law. People who do not meet the conditions to drive vehicles will be handled according to regulations. In case parents or people hand over vehicles to people who do not meet the conditions to drive, they may also be considered for handling related responsibilities.
The Traffic Police Department recommends that parents should not consider "car modification" as a harmless hobby or temporary trend. Families need to regularly check vehicles used by their children, promptly detect signs of changes in structure, battery capacity, speed adjustment or improper use of vehicles.
In addition, schools need to strengthen propaganda on safe traffic participation skills, coordinate with functional forces to inspect and remind students to comply with legal regulations, contributing to preventing unfortunate incidents that may occur from the "car modification" trend in schools.
