Presenting a paper on "Making safe trips on the Grab platform" at the Motorcycle Traffic Safety Workshop: Challenges and Lessons Learned in November 2024, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang, Grab's External Relations Director said:
Driving in violation of traffic laws or driving carelessly can endanger the lives of passengers and other road users. This includes obeying speed limits, obeying road signs and traffic signals, ensuring passengers wear helmets properly. Make sure you get enough rest and don't overwork yourself.
If this is violated, Grab will suspend the right to use the application for a certain period of time or permanently suspend the right to use the application (depending on the type and severity of the violation).
In particular, the use of alcohol, beer, and stimulants will not be accepted. If violated, Grab will permanently suspend the right to use the application.
"How can we monitor driver partners and ensure they comply with the highest level of traffic safety laws and codes of conduct? Grab has channels to manage and handle traffic safety violations by driver partners through technology," Ms. Trang shared.
Through feedback from passengers: All feedback from passengers through channels about traffic safety violations by partners is the basis for Grab to verify and apply appropriate sanctions.
Through real data from the Grab system, in case a partner receives many responses from the warning system; incident reports (speed, sudden braking, sudden turns)... will be reviewed and appropriate sanctions will be applied.
In case a Grab driver partner violates traffic safety and causes an accident during a trip, and is recorded by the authorities and reported to Grab..., the partner will be considered and appropriate sanctions will be applied.
At the same time, using support technology, such as the "speed warning" feature on the navigation map, the "rest reminder" feature during operation. With the "Safe driving report" feature, driver partners can access the Grab Driver application to track safe trips, ensuring a safe experience for passengers with 3 indicators: Speed; sharp turns; sudden braking.
Ms. Trang added that currently, there are hundreds of thousands of two-wheeled vehicle drivers using Grab's technology. These drivers regularly operate on the road under different weather conditions, mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Driver partners provide passenger transportation services (GrabBike), food delivery (GrabFood), online shopping (GrabMart), and goods delivery (GrabExpress).
To ensure "safe" rides for partners and passengers, Grab operates on three pillars: Safety policy; applying support technology and having solutions to raise awareness.
Accordingly, regarding safety policy, Grab builds and applies safety standards to become a Grab two-wheeled driver partner.
Drivers must ensure the following mandatory registration documents: Identity documents; Driving license; Vehicle registration certificate; Compulsory vehicle liability insurance. These are mandatory requirements by law. In addition, Grab requires a criminal record.
Driver partners must commit to implementing the Code of Conduct between Grab and driver partners before participating in transportation such as: Regulations on service standards; prohibited behaviors and corresponding sanctions. Complete mandatory training before officially operating, including content to ensure "safe" trips.
Ms. Thuy Trang emphasized that Grab also implements solutions such as training and propaganda to raise awareness of driver partners in complying with laws and regulations on traffic safety.
Grab has launched GrabAcademy to provide an online training channel exclusively for Grab partners to update and learn. Coordinate with units to implement projects to improve skills for partners, including safe driving skills; handling arising and emergency situations...
