This is one of the localities in Lao Cai province that suffered heavy damage during the recent storm and flood in the North. Storm No. 3 damaged hundreds of houses, severely damaged roads and power grids, and destroyed school facilities, affecting the learning of thousands of students.
After consulting with the Provincial Youth Union and local authorities, Grab decided to present gifts including school supplies and equipment to help children overcome difficulties and return to school as soon as possible. The total value of the gifts is 600 million VND, of which 500 million VND was previously announced by Grab and 100 million VND was taken from the contributions of Grab Vietnam employees for charity and community support activities. This activity also had the participation of a number of Grab driver partners in Hanoi who joined hands to transport and distribute gifts to local people.
The Central Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union said: “The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union sincerely thanks the leaders and all staff of Grab Vietnam for their sympathy and sharing with the people, especially the children of Si Ma Cai district - one of the places that suffered heavy damage from storm No. 3. The gifts of school bags, books and school supplies given today are very meaningful and practical, helping the children to go to school, reducing the burden on parents who are struggling to rebuild their houses and restore production after the storm.”
Mr. Giang Seo Ky, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ban Me Commune, Si Ma Cai District, said: “Storm No. 3 has left very serious consequences for schools in the area. However, thanks to the active participation of authorities at all levels, and especially the timely cooperation of many sponsors, up to now, 99% of students have been able to return to school. The spirit of solidarity, support, and mutual love is always latent in every Vietnamese person, and will be strongly promoted whenever our people encounter difficulties and natural disasters.”
Ms. Hoang Thi Hong Hanh, Vice Principal of Ban Me Primary and Secondary School, Si Ma Cai District, said: “The sponsors have promptly encouraged and supported the people with daily necessities such as drinking water, medicine, instant noodles, and especially Grab has supported books, notebooks, and school supplies, helping the children return to school soon. These are very practical gifts that help the children have the conditions to start the new school year, as well as help solve some of the difficulties for the school and parents.”
Previously, on September 13, 2024, Grab Vietnam announced a total budget of VND 8 billion to support people and Grab partners facing difficulties due to storms and floods in the northern provinces. Of which, Grab transferred VND 2.5 billion directly to the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for disaster relief and recovery work, and VND 500 million to accompany activities to support essential goods for people.
The remaining budget is reserved by Grab to support driver and merchant partners directly affected by storms and floods in the northern provinces. Grab partners in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, and Lao Cai can receive practical support from Grab to quickly overcome the difficult period and stabilize their lives.
In addition, Grab is also implementing a revenue support program for Grab driver partners and supporting promotional budgets for GrabFood and GrabMart merchant partners in some northern provinces with the hope of bringing them more orders.
