The Ministry of Public Security has just issued Circular No. 81/2024/TT-BCA on national technical regulations on vehicle license plates. The Circular takes effect from January 1, 2025.
Regarding car license plates, the regulations are as follows:
General regulations, license plates are made of aluminum alloy; have reflective film, ink (or paint); the security symbol of the Public Security is clearly embossed; the letters, numbers and symbols are embossed with a height of: (1.7 ± 0.1) mm.
License plates ensure correct size, quality and security; letters and numbers are sharp, no ink smudges, easy to recognize information; reflective film is glued to aluminum alloy plate without air holes.
All the letters and numbers are arranged symmetrically on the license plate.
Special requirements for car license plates are as follows:
Short license plate: Size (330 x 165) mm, four corners are rounded.
Long license plate: Size (520 x 110) mm, four corners are rounded.
Location of the security symbol Police symbol
For long license plates: The Police badge is stamped above the horizontal line, the top edge of the Police badge is aligned with the top edge of the series of letters and numbers.
For short license plates: The police badge is stamped in the middle of the two rows of letters and numbers above and below, 5 mm from the left edge.
The position of letters, numbers and symbols on automobile license plates is specified in sections 1.1 and 1.2 of the Appendix issued with this Regulation.
The size of letters, numbers and symbols on automobile license plates is specified in Section 1.3 of the Appendix issued with this Regulation.
