The name SLR is an abbreviation of Sport Leicht Rennsport in German, or Sport Light Racing in English. The nickname "silver arrow" comes from the characteristic aerodynamic design and silver paint inspired by the legendary Mercedes 300 SLR.
This supercar model also impresses with its frame made of reinforced carbon fiber plastic material, helping the car's weight maintain at around 1,750 kg.
According to car collectors, this Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren arrived in Vietnam in July 2008 through Hai Phong port, owned by a collector in Ho Chi Minh City. At that time, the model quickly created attraction in car enthusiasts thanks to its distinctive design and symbolic value.
This is also the last cooperation product between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren before the two brands separated in the field of high-performance cars.
After about two years of use, the car was transferred to a collector in Hanoi and is kept to this day. Although there have been many offers to buy it back at a high price, the current owner still has no intention of transferring it.
The appearance of Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren at an event in Hanoi is considered a rare opportunity for domestic car enthusiasts to directly admire this iconic supercar model. According to some sources in the car enthusiast community, the owner currently mainly preserves and displays the car, rarely using it on the streets.
