Mercedes-Benz GL-Class X166 is a large luxury SUV line, manufactured in the period 2012–2019. This is the second generation of the GL-Class and was renamed GLS by Mercedes-Benz after an upgrade in 2016. This model was launched to the public at the New York International Auto Show 2012 and officially launched on the market from September of the same year.
Compared to the previous generation, the GL-Class X166 has significant improvements in size and weight, thereby improving operating performance and fuel efficiency.
The high-performance Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 version was first introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2013. The car is equipped with a 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine, handcrafted by AMG, producing a maximum power of 550 horsepower and a maximum torque of 760 Nm. Power is transmitted through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7-speed gearbox with different driving modes, including economy, sport and manual operation.
In addition to the powerful engine, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 also owns a series of AMG's characteristic upgrades such as high-performance braking system, sports exhaust pipes, AMG exterior and interior equipment package, 5-spoke alloy wheels with a size of 21 inches and compressed air suspension capable of automatically lowering the body when driving at high speeds. Since 2016, the engine of this model has been refined, increasing power to 577 horsepower, while torque remains unchanged at 760 Nm.
The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic that just appeared in Vietnam is completed with black paint, accompanied by silver-painted dual multi-spoke rims. The car interior uses coffee brown tones, creating a luxurious but still sporty feeling. The presence of a high-performance SUV in a near-rare state is considered rare, especially when the GLS 63 generation X166 line has been out of production for many years.
