Many vehicles do not have to go for inspection when applying the motorbike emission roadmap

In case the motorbike emission roadmap is approved, many motorbikes still do not have to go for inspection.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment submitted a draft Decision of the Prime Minister stipulating the roadmap for applying national technical regulations on emissions of motorbikes and mopeds (motorbikes) circulating in Vietnam.

The time to start implementing the emission inspection of motorbikes in circulation is as follows:

From January 1, 2027, motorbikes will be circulating in the area of 2 centrally-run cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

From January 1, 2028, motorbikes will circulate in the remaining 4 centrally-run cities, including Hai Phong city, Da Nang city, Can Tho city and Hue city.

From January 1, 2030 for motorbikes circulating in the remaining provinces and cities. Depending on the actual situation, these provinces and cities can regulate the application of the deadline earlier.

Regarding motorbikes that must go for emission inspection, the Vietnam Register said that for motorbikes and mopeds with a time from the year of manufacture up to 5 years, the owner does not have to submit an emission inspection dossier and does not have to bring the vehicle to the inspection facility for emission inspection.

The emission inspection certificate for motorbikes and mopeds is issued by the Vietnam Register on a management software combined with a database on registration and management of motor vehicles of the Ministry of Public Security.

For motorbikes and mopeds with a manufacturing year of more than 5 years, the owner must bring the vehicle to the inspection facility to conduct an emission inspection and be granted a cycle-based Emissions Inspection Certificate. Details are as follows:

Motorbikes over 5 to 12 years old have an emission inspection cycle of 24 months/time.

Motorbikes over 12 years old have an emission inspection cycle of 12 months/time.

Thus, when the motorbike emission roadmap is approved, the vehicle will not have to be inspected for 5 years. For example, on January 1, 2027, when applying motorbike emission inspection in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, motorbikes manufactured after January 1, 2022 do not have to undergo motorbike emission inspection.
