Currently, more and more people are coming to the used car market and want to own a good car without having to spend too much money. Therefore, Consumer Reports - a famous American consumer magazine - has conducted a series of analysis applying a series of criteria to select the best used car models.
The published list includes cars that performed well in road tests when they were new; cars with above-average reliability in surveys over many years and cars with good value. This means that some models in this list may not be the best in the segment when they are new, however, if considering the used car market, these models become more attractive compared to competitors.
According to Consumer Reports, buyers should choose the last 2 models of a generation because car manufacturers tend to improve and rationalize production in the last models of the product.
Here are the best used cars in the price range and advantages of each product:
The under $10,000 segment includes the Chevrolet Cruze (2016-2019). This model is generally considered comfortable, spacious interior, smooth engine and fuel-efficient.
Under $15,000, customers can consider using the Hyundai Elantra (2017-2020) because of its user-friendly control system, spacious and fuel-efficient rear seats.
SUV under $15,000 with Honda HR-V (2016-2022). This model is also considered quite convenient, has a spacious interior, good operation and fuel economy.
The hybrid model under 20,000 USD has the Toyota Corolla Hybrid model (2020-2024). This model is highly fuel-efficient, along with many standard safety features.
In addition, the sports car model under 20,000 USD can be mentioned as the Mazda MX-5 Miata (2016-2024) because of its good performance, reliability and fuel economy.
Depending on the budget, customers can choose different types of vehicles (sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, sports cars). In the announced list, Toyota has three models, followed by Mazda and Hyundai/Kia with two different models each. The latest model on the list is the Toyota Corolla Hybrid sedan 2020-2024, while the oldest model is the Toyota Tacoma 2005-2015.
Consumer Reports also recommends that users should ask experienced technicians to carefully check the products before buying to avoid buying defective goods.
