There needs to be more hands-on experiences
A new study on the transition to electric vehicles (EV) in the UK shows that increasing test drive and hands-on experience is an important factor in changing perception, thereby promoting the transition to electric vehicles.
The EV Transition Tracker report conducted by Motability Operations shows that any level of exposure - from having been in the car to owning a car - significantly increases the positive view of electric vehicles.
The rate of people with a positive view of electric vehicles increased sharply according to the level of contact: 24% for those who have never experienced it, 44% for those who have been passengers, 74% for those who have charged the vehicle and 90% for those who own an electric vehicle.
People cant accept what they havent experienced, said Andrew Miller, CEO of Motability Operations.
That is the reason why we provide trial driving and electric vehicle charging demonstration services to help customers understand the vehicle, evaluate whether electric vehicles are suitable for them or not, and at the same time, relieve common concerns, especially about affordability, distance traveled and electric charging.
The report also shows that many British people still consider electric vehicles to be a vehicle rich in technology and high-end. 51% described them as technologyally modern and 40% said they were excessive. Meanwhile, those who have used electric vehicles tend to describe them as amateur (50%) and money- worth (47%).
Industry experts say that there should be more hands-on experiences, as well as providing transparent information to support consumers in the transition process.
Our data shows that once an electric vehicle is driven, it is rare for people to want to return to use a gasoline vehicle, said Ian Plummer, commercial director of Auto Trader. Witnessing the success of relatives or friends when using electric vehicles also motivates others. Test driving and performance sessions - like Motability Operations' program - are very important. If we are truly serious about the goal of net zero emissions, distributors need to promote this model.
Many people buy electric cars after experiencing it in practice
In Vietnam, test drive has made many people speed up their decision to buy electric cars, because the practical experience is much better than reading information and listening to recommendations from others.
Mr. Hoang Minh Vu is from Phu Tho, currently living and working in Hanoi. Mr. Vu is looking to buy a car to use in the capital with the purpose of combining personal needs and service. Mr. Vu attended the electric vehicle test drive event and experienced it in practice.
After testing some gasoline cars and coming to the event to experience the VF 5 Plus electric car, Mr. Vu expressed a special impression of VinFast's A-SUV model because of its extremely powerful performance.
"The vehicle is sensitive, just need to accelerate to move, unlike gasoline vehicles that need to step a little deep. The car is easy to drive and flexible on the street because it is compact" - Mr. Vu said.
Mr. Vu also shared that one thing he really likes about electric cars is that there is no smell or exhaust. People who buy cars for services like him spend most of their time behind the wheel. Therefore, an odorless car will help him reduce the fatigue of his daily work. After testing the electric vehicle, Mr. Vu decided to buy the vehicle he had tested.
At the recent events "Change gasoline for electricity - Together with VinFast create a green future", many customers came to participate and wanted to soon switch to electric vehicles to both support the State's policies and protect the health of themselves and their families. Not to mention, in fact, VinFast electric motorbikes are showing superiority in value compared to gasoline vehicles in the same segment while cost savings are much higher.
