According to March 2025 business data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the domestic automobile industry is showing clear signs of recovery.
Total sales in the month reached 31,750 units, up 47% compared to the previous month and 16% higher than the same period last year.
In terms of consumption structure, passenger cars continue to dominate the market with 22,339 units, an impressive increase of 53%.
Commercial vehicles achieved sales of 9,231 vehicles (up 36%), while the specialized vehicle line decreased sharply by 36% with only 180 vehicles sold.
A highlight in the market picture last month was the breakthrough of completely built-up imported cars.
A total of 16,863 vehicles were consumed, an increase of 60% compared to February. Meanwhile, the number of domestically assembled cars also reached 14,887 units, recording an increase of 35%.
VAMA members alone consumed a total of 26,079 vehicles in the month, of which tourist vehicles dominated with 18,075 units.
Commercial vehicles reached 7,008 vehicles, specialized vehicles 94 vehicles, and hybrid vehicles also created a highlight when they sold 902 units - an increase of 40% compared to the previous month and an increase of up to 80% compared to the same period in 2024.
This reflects the clear shift of consumers to fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.
In the first quarter of 2025, VAMA enterprises consumed 72,249 vehicles, an increase of 24% over the same period last year. Of which, tourist vehicles increased by 22%, commercial vehicles increased by 28% and specialized vehicles doubled (104%).
The consumer trend is also clearly shifting as imported vehicle sales increased by 36% in the first 3 months of the year, while domestically assembled vehicles increased by 13% compared to the same period in 2024.
This shows that consumers are increasingly interested in diverse vehicle options of origin, while creating a fiercely competitive playground between international and domestic brands.
