A dealer representative said that this decision is in line with the trend taking place in the auto market. In the near future, Toyota will only focus on producing and distributing the Toyota Camry hybrid version (HEV).
“Stopping the production of the gasoline engine version is a direction that is in line with current consumer trends. However, customers who are using gasoline Camry versions do not need to worry because the supply of components and spare parts is still fully guaranteed by Toyota during the use and maintenance of the car," a dealer representative said.
Currently on Toyota Vietnam's official website, the Camry product line only has one version left, the Camry HEV TOP CE, with a listed price of 1.46 billion VND.
Before the new generation was introduced, Toyota Camry was distributed in three different versions. According to research from the dealer system, the current Camry HEV TOP CE is actually the mid-range version previously named 2.5HEV MID.
Meanwhile, the most advanced version before, 2.5HEV TOP, has stopped being distributed. At the same time, the Camry 2.0Q gasoline engine version is also no longer present in Toyota's product portfolio in the Vietnamese market.
According to data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), electric and hybrid cars have grown impressively in recent times.
VAMA's May 2026 sales report shows that total market sales reached 29,935 vehicles, down 6% compared to April 2026 but up 6% compared to the same period last year.
Notably, the hybrid car group continues to record strong growth. Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2026, hybrid car sales reached 8,518 vehicles, an increase of 80% compared to the same period in 2025.
In the group of VAMA member brands, Toyota continued to lead sales in May with 5,653 vehicles sold. Followed by Ford with 3,493 vehicles, Mitsubishi reached 3,111 vehicles, Kia reached 2,512 vehicles and Mazda reached 2,304 vehicles.
Besides hybrid cars, the battery-powered electric vehicle market also recorded positive signals. VAMA members reported sales of 64 electric vehicles in the early period of the year.
The developments of the auto market in the first months of the year show that the trend of electrification is becoming increasingly clear.
