July 2026 marks a clear rise of the small urban electric vehicle group. VinFast VF 3 reached 5,564 vehicles delivered, leading the entire product range of the company and also the best-selling car model in the Vietnamese market in the month. Accumulated from the beginning of the year, the number of VF3 vehicles delivered reached 29,345 units.
In the same small car segment, Minio Green recorded 2,429 vehicles sold in July after the price was adjusted to 188 million VND. In total, VinFast delivered 21,781 electric cars in the domestic market this month.
Market signals are also shown through VF2, a mini car model that VinFast launched for sale in mid-July. In just 72 hours, from July 15-17, this car model recorded 28,742 deposits. Although the number of deposits cannot be directly converted into sales for handover, this result still reflects great interest in a 4-seater electric car model with a listed price of 188 million VND, including batteries.
The emergence of VF3, Minio Green and the initial appeal of VF2 shows that a new demand is forming.
The appeal of small-sized electric vehicles does not only come from the selling price. In big cities, where roads are narrow, vehicle density is high and parking spaces are limited, compact size becomes a practical advantage. Users do not necessarily need a large car for most daily journeys, which are mainly going to work, picking up children, or traveling short distances in the city.
This is a noteworthy issue as transportation is one of the major sources of pollution in urban areas.
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Anh - representative of the Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, transport contributes about 35% of the source of air pollution in Hanoi, including about 12% from vehicle emissions and 23% from dust generated in traffic activities.
The national action plan on pollution remediation and air quality management for the period 2026-2030 also requires increasing the rate of green traffic, controlling vehicle emissions and converting public transport to clean energy.
To make this trend effective in the long term, the development of small-sized electric vehicles needs to go hand in hand with expanding the charging infrastructure, arranging suitable parking spots and convenient connection with the public transport system. With compact dimensions, reasonable usage costs and no emissions at the exhaust pipes, this car line has many advantages to become an important part of the green transport ecosystem in urban areas.
