For a long time, in everyday life, we sometimes encounter images of children in cars being free to move between rows of seats, standing up and sticking their heads through the sunroof or sitting in front seats next to drivers.
Many people consider it normal, even an interesting experience for young children. A click of the tongue to justify, ignoring the necessary protection measures like just a short trip, a familiar section of road, or a hurried trip to school...
They forget that these are behaviors that pose many risks in traffic. Just as traffic accidents are never forewarned, regardless of whether the journey is long or short, the road is crowded or deserted.
Reality has shown that many tragic incidents occur just a few hundred meters from home or right on roads that drivers have traveled thousands of times.
Another reality is that many parents are willing to spend millions of dong to buy toys, clothes, milk or technology devices for their children, but are hesitant when recommended to equip safe seats in cars.
This hesitation does not come from affordability, but reflects a gap in awareness of child protection among many adults.
Another issue is that for a long time, many Vietnamese families have been accustomed to expressing love with daily care such as feeding their children better, dressing them better, or meeting more material needs.
But along with the development of society, love for children must also be expressed by the ability to prevent possible risks.
A child wearing a helmet when riding a motorbike, being seated in a safe seat in a car... is how adults proactively minimize risks for their children.
Therefore, the regulation requiring the use of safety equipment for children in cars is a new step forward in traffic culture as well as in adults' awareness of the responsibility to protect children.
When the law sets specific requirements for child protection devices, the message sent is also very clear that the safety of young children cannot depend on the feelings or personal experiences of adults.
Children sitting in cars need to be protected by specific solutions. And love is not only measured by what parents give to their children, but also by the risks that parents help their children avoid.
