Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang - Director of K Hospital said that since 2012, under the direction of the Ministry of Health, the Cancer Patient Support Fund - Bright Tomorrow has continuously organized annual breast cancer screening and communication programs nationwide, helping millions of people access information about breast cancer and more than 72,000 high-risk women have received free breast cancer screening.
"Through these activities, we hope to promote community awareness of the importance of preventing and early detection of breast cancer, a disease that can be effectively treated if detected promptly," said Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is an annual health campaign dedicated to Vietnamese women, working with hospitals and media agencies to help Vietnamese women raise awareness, care for themselves, and especially proactively screen for early detection of breast cancer.
"In recent years, the rate of breast cancer detection at early stages (stages 0, 1, 2) has reached 76.6% compared to 52.4% in the period 2008-2010. If diagnosed early, the patient's 5-year survival rate can be up to 90%, and even for young patients, the 10-year survival rate at early stages is over 80%," said Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan.
However, in reality, there are still many Vietnamese women who are not proactive in getting themselves screened for breast cancer.
True to the name of the campaign: Join hands for the woman I love, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan called on the community to join hands to fight breast cancer, businesses and organizations need to include cancer screening programs in general and breast cancer screening programs in particular for women turning 40 in their regular health check-up programs to move towards a strong and healthy Vietnam.
The leader of the Ministry of Health calls on women: "Don't delay! Love yourself, take the initiative to take care of your health and regularly take the 5 necessary steps to detect breast cancer early, for effective treatment" - Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan said.
Accordingly, the 5 steps to detect breast cancer early include:
Know your risk of breast cancer;
Know how you can reduce your risk of breast cancer;
Know how to properly self-examine your breasts;
Know when to go for a check-up and early detection of breast cancer: when there are signs and symptoms of suspected breast cancer;
Know where to get breast cancer screening.
