On July 29, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the Otolaryngology Department had received and successfully operated on patient H.M.V. (6 years old, residing in Dong Tam village, Nam Cua Viet commune, Quang Tri province) who was stabbed through the left ear by a bamboo stick.
According to family members, the accident happened when the child was playing with friends. After being pierced through the ear by a bamboo stick, the child bled profusely and was quickly taken to the hospital for emergency treatment by relatives.
Through examination, doctors determined that the stick pierced through two positions on the left earlobe, causing skin tears, cartilage damage and loss of part of the tissue in the injured area.
Immediately after the consultation, the Ear, Nose and Throat Department team performed surgery to remove the foreign object, clean the wound, stop the bleeding and create a shape, restoring the missing tissue.
After surgery, the patient's health was stable. The child is continuing to be monitored and treated at the hospital.
According to doctors, the above accident is a warning about the risks that may occur during children's play, especially during summer vacation, when children regularly participate in outdoor activities without adult supervision. Parents should not let children play with sharp objects such as bamboo sticks, wooden sticks, chopsticks, scissors, sharp pens.
