At 10 p.m. on January 2, Hai Phong Children's Hospital received emergency treatment for a 25-month-old boy after swallowing a sharp safety pin.
Through examination and X-ray, the doctor determined that the foreign object was in the child's digestive tract, with the potential risk of puncturing internal organs if not treated promptly. Recognizing that this was a complicated case, the digestive endoscopy team quickly performed anesthesia and emergency endoscopy, successfully removing the foreign object, a sharp safety pin about 6cm in size, safely, without causing serious damage to surrounding organs.
After the intervention, the boy's condition was stable. Currently, the patient is continuing to be monitored at the hospital. Hai Phong Children's Hospital also recommends that parents keep all small, sharp objects, button batteries, etc. out of reach of children. In case the child swallows a foreign object, the family should immediately take the child to the hospital for timely treatment to avoid dangerous complications.
