On June 19, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had successfully performed 4 transplants of heart, liver and cornea across Vietnam from donated organs from brain-dead people in Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, on June 12, the hospital received information on organ coordination from the National Coordination Center on human organ transplantation. That same night, the medical team was mobilized to travel by car to Da Nang to catch the flight to Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate with hospitals to perform the organ collection.
After completion, all tissues and organs were taken on a flight back to Hue at 8:46 p.m. on June 13 and landed safely at 10:28 p.m.
During the night, the medical teams urgently performed a heart transplant for a patient with end-stage dilated cardiovascular disease and a liver for a child born in 2009 with congenital diabetes.
Both patients recovered well and were taken off the ventilator within 24 hours of surgery.
In addition, two patients with corneal disorders, including one completely blind, have also had cornea transplants. After surgery, the patient's vision gradually recovered.
Director of Hue Central Hospital - Pham Nhu Hiep said that each transplant is a journey to continue life from compassion and love. This success is the result of urgent and professional coordination between units and the noble heart of organ donors and their families.
