On March 28, the Can Tho City Department of Health coordinated with Can Tho Oncology Hospital to organize the handover ceremony of the accelerated radiation therapy system at facility 1, and also inaugurated the inpatient treatment area at facility 3 and started construction of the accelerated radiation therapy area at this facility.

The event marks an important step forward in the strategy to improve cancer treatment capacity of Can Tho City in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.

Meanwhile, the operation of the inpatient treatment area facility 3 in Phong Dien commune and the commencement of construction of a new accelerated radiation therapy area help continue to expand the scale of receiving and treating patients in the Mekong Delta region.
This is also an important foundation for the hospital to gradually deploy specialized techniques, towards the goal of building a modern cancer treatment center in the region.

After the handover ceremony, the accelerated radiation therapy system will be piloted to complete technical inspection procedures, radiation dose calibration and human resource training. This phase is to ensure the system operates stably, safely and fully meets professional standards before officially serving patients.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong - Director of Can Tho City Department of Health said that investing in an accelerated radiation therapy system is not only an infrastructure project, but also an important component in the strategy of specialized medical development of the entire region. This system will contribute to improving treatment quality, approaching advanced standards, reducing overload at upper levels and narrowing the gap in access to high-quality medical services between localities.

According to the development orientation, it is expected that by the end of 2026, Can Tho Oncology Hospital (with a scale of 500 beds) will be put into operation. When completed, the system of facilities of Can Tho Oncology Hospital will form an interconnected, modern and effective treatment network, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive care for patients, gradually affirming Can Tho's role as the oncology center of the Mekong Delta region.

Sending congratulations to the health sector, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, also requested the sector to focus on synchronously implementing key tasks.
Accordingly, it is necessary to soon put the accelerated radiation therapy system into safe and effective operation; continue to improve the quality of human resources; promote the application of science and technology and digital transformation; strengthen professional cooperation with central-level hospitals.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee emphasized that the health sector needs to continue to put patients at the center, improve service quality and people's satisfaction. Can Tho City is committed to continuing to create favorable conditions for the health sector to develop, especially in the field of cancer, towards the goal of becoming a specialized health center of the Mekong Delta region in the coming time.
