Ministry of Health requests clarification on maternal death in Lam Dong

Lam Dong - The Ministry of Health has issued a document requesting the Lam Dong Department of Health to direct the provincial General Hospital to establish a professional council to clarify the case of a pregnant woman in Lam Ha district who died 11 days after a cesarean section.

The task of the Professional Council is to review the process of reception, monitoring, care and treatment of the pregnant woman Ka Hien according to the provisions of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.

Then, notify the conclusion of the Expert Council to the pregnant woman's family and the mass media. At the same time, send a report to the Ministry of Health before October 20.

In addition, the Ministry of Health also requested the Lam Dong Department of Health to strictly handle groups and individuals if they are found to have errors in expertise, spirit, service attitude, and professional ethics according to regulations.

Continue to direct and rectify obstetrics and gynecology examination and treatment facilities in the area according to Directive (No. 06/CT-BYT) dated August 11, 2017 of the Ministry of Health on enhancing maternal and newborn health care to reduce maternal and newborn mortality.

Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that pregnant woman Ka Hien was admitted to the hospital on September 15 with her water breaking. Doctors diagnosed that the patient and fetus had abnormal signs, so they decided to perform a cesarean section.

On September 19, Ms. Ka Hien and her newborn baby girl weighing 2.4 kg were discharged from the hospital and returned home. On September 21, Ms. Ka Hien was admitted to Lam Dong General Hospital for emergency treatment in a state of difficulty breathing, lower limb edema, and difficult-to-measure blood pressure.

The patient then fell into a coma, had abdominal distension, bruising in the lower abdomen, and a vertical incision in the middle of the abdomen that was tense and purple. Afterwards, Lam Dong General Hospital organized a consultation and performed emergency surgery.

After surgery, the patient was monitored in the Intensive Care Unit. At 6 p.m. on September 26, Ms. Ka Hien fell into a deep coma.

According to Lam Dong General Hospital, on September 26, a hospital representative explained Ka Hien’s serious condition to her relatives and completed the procedures for them to take the patient home as desired. On September 26, Ka Hien died.
