Can Tho has 61 medical facilities with hospital beds, including 43 public health facilities (23 hospitals, 20 medical centers), 5 central hospitals, and 13 non-public hospitals.
By September 29, 2025, 100% of medical facilities with hospital beds in Can Tho city had announced the implementation of electronic medical records.
In Can Tho, Hoa Hao - Medic Can Tho General Hospital is the first hospital to successfully implement the electronic medical record model, marking an important step forward in the digital transformation of the health sector.
Accordingly, all inpatient and outpatient medical records of patients are stored according to regulations, both on-site and on cloud platforms. At the hospital's outpatient clinics, all diagnostic, treatment prescription and testing activities are carried out on digital platforms. Doctors use an electronic signature to confirm that the patient only needs points on the device to get an electronic fingerprint.

Talking to Lao Dong, MSc. Dr. Nguyen Dinh, Deputy Director of Hoa Hao Pharmacy Hospital - Medic Can Tho, said that up to now, all work at the hospital has been basically completed, medical staff are proficient, software runs smoothly... The model truly brings outstanding efficiency to the team of doctors and patients.
However, Dr. Dinh believes that to fully deploy electronic medical records, which means eliminating all paper records, there needs to be synchronization among all hospitals. "We hope to soon receive an official dispatch and regulations allowing the implementation of electronic medical records across the system" - Deputy Director of Hoa Hao Pharmacy Hospital - Medic Can Tho shared.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong, Director of Can Tho Department of Health, acknowledged that in reality, in parallel with the application of electronic medical records, hospitals still use paper records; have not paid for images using digital transformation and can be paid; medical examination and treatment prices have not been restructured in terms of investment in electronic medical records technology. Therefore, the Can Tho health sector still has many key tasks to be implemented in this field.
"We are orienting many contents related to digital transformation, such as launching a general database for the entire industry. The data of hospitals and medical facilities is stored in shared databases to monitor the health system intelligently" - Mr. Cuong said.

The Director of Can Tho Department of Health directs that the next step is to connect electronic medical records data between medical facilities and the shared database of the industry; then there will be data connection of medical facilities. This solution aims to realize the goal of circulating data on paraclinical test results of patients, thereby making patient service faster, more economical and more convenient.
"We need to establish an electronic health record for each citizen to implement the Prime Minister's Project 06. Then put this health record on the Can Tho health care app so that people can monitor it themselves; doctors know the history and results of previous examinations. Thus, people do not have to use medical examination books" - Mr. Cuong analyzed.
Currently, the Can Tho health sector is continuing to build a comprehensive, full-time quality monitoring system to connect to electronic medical records, monitoring medical errors occurring in hospitals to minimize risks and departmental incidents. This system is applied with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data towards a smart healthcare system.
