Patient T.T.A, male, 29 years old, residing in Long Bien district, Hanoi, was admitted to Duc Giang General Hospital in critical condition with symptoms of muscle pain all over the body, cramps, severe thirst for water, dizziness and rapid pulse up to 170 times/minute. Doctors quickly determined that the patient was drunk and had symptoms of acute kidney failure and emphysema.
Immediately, the doctors proceeded to actively treat the patient without waiting for the test results: large-scale IV fluids, pain relievers and rehydration, electrolytes. Test results later confirmed that the patient had acute kidney failure and severe emphysema. However, after only 3 hours of Administration of 1,700 ml of fluid, the indicators improved significantly, and after 8 hours of treatment, the patient was able to urinate again.
After 3 days of treatment, patient T.T.A recovered well, kidney function returned to normal and urine output was stable. However, atherosclerosis still needs to be monitored further to prevent long-term complications. Doctors continue to monitor the indicators to ensure that patients do not have serious health problems in the future.
Before being admitted to the hospital, the patient said he worked continuously from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the factory in temperatures of up to 38-39 degrees Celsius, lacking ventilation. During his shift, he did not drink enough water, causing fatigue and leading to serious symptoms.
MSc. Dr. Nguyen Duy Toan, an emergency expert at Duc Giang General Hospital, warned: Hot sayings can cause kidney failure, even death if not treated promptly. The main cause is lack of water and working in a hot, air-conditioned environment.
Doctors recommend preventing heatstroke:
Drink enough 2 - 3 liters of water per day, increase water intake during heavy work.
Avoid going out from 10am to 4pm.
Make sure the workplace is airy, with fans or air conditioners.
Early recognition of signs such as dizziness, headache, nausea for timely treatment.
