On January 19, Vung Tau General Hospital (Phuoc Thang ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that a pregnant woman with critical postpartum hemorrhage was rescued and her health stabilized.
Previously, on January 15, pregnant woman N.T.K.T. (born in 1996) was hospitalized in a state of labor for the second child, 38 weeks pregnant. Doctors recorded that the pregnant woman had a history of mild anemia, multiple amniotic fluids and was monitored for a large fetus (which are high risk factors leading to postpartum hemorrhage).
In the early morning of January 16, the postpartum woman gave birth to a normal baby boy weighing about 3.5kg. Although the Obstetrics team proactively and actively handled hemorrhagic prophylaxis, 1 hour after birth, the postpartum woman developed uterine dysfunction, poor abscesses, estimated to lose about 1,000 ml of blood, progressing quickly and dangerously.
Doctors quickly mobilized all forces and closely coordinated with many specialties. Activated a blood bandage emergency protocol, deployed active resuscitation measures, and at the same time transfused 5 units of deposition red blood cells, 4 units of frozen fresh plasma, and 3 units of fresh blood donated directly from employees of the Obstetrics Department and the hospital's living blood bank.
Currently, the pregnant woman has passed the critical condition, is awake, her vital signs are stable, she is living normally and is continuing to be monitored and cared for.
According to Dr. Hoang Phuoc Ba - Head of Obstetrics Department of Vung Tau General Hospital, this is a case of postpartum hemorrhage accompanied by blood clotting disorder, progressing quickly and complicatedly. If not treated promptly and especially without immediate blood support, the risk of irreversible blood loss shock and death is very high.
Doctors also recommend that pregnant women comply with regular check-ups, especially for cases with risk factors such as multiple amniotic fluids, large pregnancy, multiple childbirth or anemia. This will help build appropriate preventive plans, ensuring maximum safety for both mother and baby during labor and postpartum.
