On July 31, Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital said that the unit had just rescued a female tourist from Australia in a state of severe pneumonia, complications of respiratory failure, septic shock and multiple organ failure.
The hospital said that this is a complicated case with a very high risk of death if not given quick medical intervention, especially in the case of patients traveling away from home.

Ms. S.P ( Australian nationality) was taken to the Emergency Department by relatives with high fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
Through examination, the doctors discovered that the patient had severe pneumonia, which had progressed to respiratory failure, accompanied by a systemic infection and multiple organ failure. Worryingly, she also has many chronic diseases such as bronchitis, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity - factors that make the condition even more serious.
As soon as she received the treatment, Ms. P was transferred to the Intensive Care & Anti-Poisoning (ICU) for intensive treatment. Doctors quickly took resuscitation measures such as oxygen support, antibiotics, use of blood pressure medicine, insulin blood sugar control and intensive respiratory care.

Dr. CKI. Do Van Pham - Head of the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison (ICU) Department of the hospital - said that patients were admitted to the hospital with rapidly progressing severe pneumonia, accompanied by difficulty breathing and low blood pressure, complications of multiple organ failure (such as liver, kidneys, etc.). In particular, the patient has many chronic underlying diseases, if not treated promptly, the risk of death is very high, can be up to more than 50%.
"Thanks to the effective coordination between specialties and the close monitoring process at ICU, the patient's condition has improved significantly after a few days of treatment," informed the Head of the Department of Intensive Care & Anti-Poison.
MSc. Le Trong Nhan - General Department - added that after the emergency condition was controlled at ICU, the patient was transferred to the General Department for further monitoring and inpatient treatment.
With a history of many chronic diseases such as bronchitis, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., recovery needs to be closely monitored and appropriate medication adjusted. We focus on stabilizing blood pressure, blood sugar, respiratory function, and supporting physical therapy to help patients gradually recover their physical condition to be able to return to normal activities, said MSc. Le Trong Nhan clearly stated.
After 7 days of active treatment, Ms. S.P's health gradually recovered, her fever stopped, she breathed easier, she ate normally, and her vital signs were stable. She was discharged from the hospital and continued her personal schedule.
Dr.BS. Nguyen Phi Hung - Medical Director of the Hospital - said that the unit understands that for international tourists, having health problems while traveling far away is very difficult. Therefore, the hospital is always proactive in approaching, diagnosing, treating and providing language support, helping patients feel secure as if they are being cared for at home.
