On April 17, People's Hospital 115 announced that for the first time, the unit had successfully removed and transplanted organs from a brain-dead person, Mr. Y (38 years old). The patient died after a large brain hemorrhage.
Previously, on April 10, Mr. Y suddenly had a severe headache, convulsions and quickly fell into a deep coma. The family immediately took the patient to the hospital. Doctors urgently performed an endotracheal placement and intensive resuscitation with all efforts to save the patient's life.
However, serious brain damage causes the patient to fall into a state of irreversible brain death. The patient's family made a brave and noble decision, donating all of Mr. Y's tissue and organs to help other patients.

At noon on April 11, after the professional council concluded that the patient was brain-dead, People's Hospital 115 with close support from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City urgently completed the steps in the organ donation - collection - transplantation process in accordance with regulations.
Major hospitals with high expertise in the field of organ transplants across the country have also been mobilized to coordinate to perform organ retrieval for patients on the waiting list of the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center under the management of the units.
The organ donation surgery was performed with the participation of experts from many frontline medical facilities such as the 108 Central Military Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the Central Lung Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, People's Hospital 115, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital...
Donated tissues and organs include cornea, liver, heart and lungs. All are carefully preserved and transferred to receiving facilities, bringing new life to many patients in critical condition.
Currently, the heart, liver, lungs and 2 corneas of the donor have been successfully transplanted to the recipient under the coordination of the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center.
