Treating nearly 300,000 cancer patients each year
At the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Hanoi Oncology Hospital and the Hanoi Cancer Prevention Workshop 2025 (taking place on November 6 - 7), Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen congratulated and acknowledged the continuous efforts of the staff and doctors of Hanoi Oncology Hospital over the past 25 years.
From the early days with limited facilities and limited human resources, the hospital has gradually matured, becoming one of the nation's leading oncology centers, the core in the cancer prevention network of the capital and the whole country.
Information at the Hanoi Cancer Prevention and Control Conference 2025 shows that the number of cancer cases is currently increasing strongly globally and has become one of the top health problems.
"Currently, Hanoi Oncology Hospital examines, diagnoses and treats nearly 300,000 patients each year, making an important contribution to the health care of the people.
The hospital has synchronously developed 5 main pillars in modern cancer treatment including: surgery - internal medicine - radiotherapy - nuclear medicine - gentle care; mastering many advanced techniques such as PET/CT, SPECT, IMRT, SBRT, intensive endoscopic surgery, targeted and immunotherapy.
In particular, the results in clinical trials, opening up opportunities to access new generation drugs for hundreds of patients, are a bright spot with profound humanitarian and scientific significance" - Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said.

Accelerating the project to build facility 2
The Deputy Minister of Health said that the new context poses many challenges such as the number of cancer cases continuing to increase, disease models changing, while the need for personalized treatment and comprehensive care is increasing.
To meet that requirement, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that Hanoi Oncology Hospital focus on implementing the project to upgrade and develop the hospital into a high-tech center for cancer diagnosis and treatment, ensuring quality and safety.
At the same time, Hanoi Oncology Hospital is accelerating the project to build a second facility, towards a model of a hospital - training - in-depth research, with modern, green, smart planning, meeting the health care needs of people in the capital and neighboring areas.
At the same time, lead the Hanoi cancer prevention network to increase screening, early detection and gentle care in the community. Promote international cooperation, digital transformation, standardize quality according to international standards and develop high-quality medical human resources, contributing to building a modern and humane medical system.
According to the Global Cancer Organization (Globocan) 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) recorded about 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths from cancer.
Similar to the world, the number of cancer cases in Vietnam has nearly doubled in just over a decade, from 92,000 cases in 2010 to 180,000 cases in 2022, showing that the burden of disease is increasing for people and the health system.
In particular, a significant proportion of patients are only detected when the disease has progressed to a late stage, reducing treatment effectiveness and increasing treatment costs.
The Hanoi Cancer Prevention and Control Conference 2025 brought many reports and quality research including 100 scientific reports, including 27 papers from international reporters (USA, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan - China, Malaysia, Singapore, India) and the participation of more than 500 domestic experts.
The conference is a prestigious scientific forum, updating information, exchanging experiences and introducing the latest research in the fields of Clinical Oncology, Imaging Diagnosis, pathology - phanoline Biology, Nuclear Medicine, Reduced Care, Clinical Pharmacy, and many other in-depth topics.
Notably, this year's workshop marked a step forward in international cooperation with specific thematic sessions such as: ECHO - a project to expand community health care towards improving public health through online training to improve professional capacity; VTOP (Vietnam Team Oncology Program) - a multidisciplinary cooperation program in cancer treatment, promoting comprehensive care based on a group of industries...
