On May 12, the Department of Health of Lam Dong province requested health units in the area to strengthen monitoring, early detection and early prevention of Hanta virus disease from early and remote.
Accordingly, the Provincial Center for Disease Control is assigned to proactively update disease information in the world, health declaration data; strengthen supervision of people, vehicles and goods from areas with cases entering Vietnam.

The health sector requests timely detection of cases of or suspected cases of Hanta virus to isolate, take samples for testing and handle according to regulations.
At the same time, continue to monitor and control rats at border gates; implement disinfection of port areas, ships and boats and ensure sufficient personal protection measures.
Health units are also required to organize training for officials on epidemic prevention and control measures, epidemiological surveillance and the use of protective equipment.
Propaganda for people about environmental sanitation, rat killing, and limiting exposure to rat waste has also been promoted.
The Department of Health requests medical examination and treatment facilities to increase vigilance in cases with symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea and a history of contact with rodents, especially rats.
Hospitals need to prepare isolation areas and emergency resuscitation equipment to promptly handle severe cases and minimize deaths.
According to the health sector, the Hanta virus is transmitted from rodents to humans through direct contact or inhalation of pathogenic dust from mouse waste.
The disease can cause lung syndrome or dengue fever accompanied by kidney failure, progresses rapidly and there is currently no specific treatment.
According to information from the World Health Organization, in early May 2026, a cluster of severe acute respiratory infections caused by Hanta virus was recorded on a cruise ship traveling from Argentina across the South Atlantic. By May 4, 2026, 7 cases were recorded and suspected, including 3 deaths.
