On January 30, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truyen - Director of Vinh Long General Hospital said that the patient is a girl named L.T.V. (3 years old, living in Tan Hanh commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long), admitted to Vinh Long General Hospital at 9:23 a.m. on January 27 with vomiting and diarrhea. After that, the patient was admitted to the Pediatrics Department for treatment with a diagnosis of Gastrointestinal infection, acute diarrhea without dehydration.
According to Mr. Truyen, the patient was monitored and treated according to the Ministry of Health's protocol. At 3:00 p.m. on January 28, the patient and his family were not present in the hospital room. Through the hospital's security camera, it was shown that the patient and his family left the hospital without permission at 1:42 p.m. on January 28. When leaving the hospital, the child was conscious and walking steadily.
At 5:45 p.m. the same day (January 28), the child was admitted to the Emergency Department with symptoms of coma and cyanosis (pulse = 0, blood pressure = 0; sunken eyes; 5 mm pupils on both sides, no light reflex; cardiac arrest). After 30 minutes of intensive emergency care, the child was confirmed dead.
The patient was taken home by his family in a state of alertness and walking normally (through images from the hospital's security camera).
However, during the 4 hours the patient returned home (from 1:42 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on January 28), the patient likely had diarrhea and vomited many times afterwards, but the family did not monitor and detect it in time, leading to severe dehydration (sunken eyes, respiratory arrest). Therefore, when the patient returned to the hospital for emergency care, resuscitation was ineffective, leading to death.
“After the incident, the hospital reported the death of a girl named L.T.V. (3 years old, in Tan Hanh commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long) to the Vinh Long Department of Health,” Mr. Truyen added.
Mr. Nguyen Van Be Hai - Deputy Director of Vinh Long Department of Health said that from the information about the case of a child patient, a girl named L.T.V. (3 years old, in Tan Hanh commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long) who died on January 28 at Vinh Long General Hospital, the Department of Health directed the hospital to review, coordinate with the authorities, and convene a meeting to establish a professional council of the hospital to have a specific report on this death case.
