The weather in the North is entering a period of peak heat with temperatures sometimes reaching 38 - 40 degrees Celsius, increasing the risk of stroke due to heatstroke and heat stroke.
Bach Mai Hospital cited statistics from the health sector showing that in the summer, the number of people with stroke increases, for every temperature increase of 1 degree Celsius, the risk of stroke increases by 10%.
In hot weather, the risk of stroke often occurs when the outdoor temperature is 32 degrees Celsius or higher. The elderly and children are susceptible to heatstroke because this group of people adapts to heat gain more slowly than others.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Duy Ton - Director of the Stroke Center, Bach Mai Hospital, in the summer, if people do not supplement water in time, it will easily cause blood to clog and cause poor circulation.
This leads to increased blood pressure, which can easily form blood clots and clog blood vessels, thereby increasing the risk of heat stroke and stroke.
Symptoms of heat stroke, stroke due to heat
When suffering from heat stroke or stroke due to heat, the patient has initial symptoms such as: Red face, lips, dry skin, rapid breathing, headache, dizziness, sweating, dizziness, difficulty breathing, rapid breathing... then there can be arthritis, high fever (from 39 - 40 degrees Celsius), coma...
The most common complications in patients with late heat stroke are: seizures, adenoid regurgitation, kidney failure, prolonged coma, damage to the nerves and other organs that do not recover, even death. heatstroke is especially dangerous for the elderly, children and patients with chronic diseases.
In addition, there are some common manifestations in stroke patients including numbness or weakness in the face, hands or feet (symptoms that often occur on one side of the body, for example weakness in the left arm and leg); Sudden unable to speak, changed voice (ghost speech, difficulty hearing) or the patient speaks nonsense, meaninglessly, cannot understand the words; Sudden loss of vision, especially when symptoms appear on one side of the eye; Sudden severe headache; dizziness, body imbalance or inability to perform the desired exercise (especially accompanied by dizziness).
When seeing relatives showing the above symptoms, the family should quickly take the patient to the nearest medical facility with in-depth expertise in stroke treatment. At the same time, the family also needs to know some initial first aid operations for the patient. For example: Place the patient to rest, it is best to place the patient on a side to prevent when the patient vomits, to avoid chest tightness in the lungs.
Doctor Ton advised that patients should not take any medicine because sometimes patients can get tick and cause acute respiratory failure. Note, do not use folk remedies to provide initial first aid to patients such as: giving a wind or blood injection to the fingers, toes, or giving some traditional medicine of unknown origin. It is important to quickly call an ambulance to take the patient to the hospital.
According to doctors at Bach Mai Hospital, anyone is at risk of a cerebral aneurysm. Experts also note that infants and children under 4 years old, the elderly aged 65 and over, people with chronic diseases such as heart, lung, kidney, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental illness, people who drink too much alcohol and people who do not drink enough water... are susceptible to stroke due to heat. The elderly and children are vulnerable because this group of people adapts to heat gain more slowly than others.
